Questions about ability, development and whether the player is actually ready for the opportunity being pursued.

Where does my player fit?

The meaningful comparison isn't against teammates — it's against players already succeeding at the level your player wants to reach. Evaluate where those players came from and what they accomplished along the way.

Does my player need more exposure — or are they simply not ready yet?

More exposure is an easy decision because it feels fixable and immediate. But if coaches are already aware of your player and haven't initiated contact, another camp or showcase won't change anything. The answer isn't typically more exposure. It's targeted development.

What if the level my player wants simply isn't realistic?

Identifying the gap between where they are and where they want to go — and determining what it will take to close it — is the most important information you can have through the recruitment process. Part of player evaluation is projecting the potential in an athlete and the path they are on today will most certainly change.

Are we developing the player — or building the résumé?

Teams, tournaments and credentials can make a résumé look impressive and often drives decision making with families. But eventually somebody evaluates the player underneath and that's why long term development will always trump résumé building.

Why has my player not been selected?

Player selection, particularly with older age groups, is more complex than simply selecting talent. Pursuing opportunities where your player is best suited (playing style, role fit, team needs) is one of the most important determinations you need to make through the process.
