Questions about options, exposure, spending and how much control families really have.
Does my player actually have options — or are we hoping something happens?
One coach, one camp or one promising conversation isn't a pathway. Options are built through research, relationships and communication long before they're needed. Recruitment is a process and coaches / scouts need time to evaluate your player, often over the course of 1-2 seasons.
Does player marketing matter if my player is good enough?
Yes. Many good players are overlooked every season as coaches / scouts are unable to evaluate a growing player pool. Marketing helps position athletes that may be a good fit with the right people. It cannot manufacture ability that isn't there.
Are we spending money because it's helping — or because we're afraid not to?
More camps, showcases, training and travel can feel like progress. Before spending, ask what specifically the investment is supposed to accomplish. Fear of missing out isn't a recruitment strategy.
Does my player want this as badly as I do?
Eventually the player has to own the work, communication, sacrifice and difficult decisions. Parents can provide resources, perspective and support. They can't supply the ambition.
How much of this can we actually control?
You can't control a coach's decision, another player's development or when a roster spot opens. You can control development, preparation, research, communication, relationships and the options you've worked to create. The process for families is about positioning their athlete for opportunities that are a great fit for both the player and the team.
