Understanding Talent

How Good Does My Player Need To Be?

Better than the alternatives.

Coaches don't recruit based on whether a player is capable of playing at their level. They recruit the players they believe give them the best chance to improve their roster. That's an important distinction many families overlook.

Why Do Good Players Get Passed Over?

Because being a good player isn't always enough.

Every year, excellent players run out of opportunities. Not because they aren't talented, but because another player better fit the role, the roster or the team's long-term plans.

That's not unfair.

That's how competitive hockey works.

What Does "Best Available Option" Really Mean?

It's how coaches think.

They're not simply evaluating talent. They are building a roster of complimentary skillsets that fits their vision.

That's why players with similar skillsets often have very different recruiting experiences.
