1. Do I Need a Hockey Advisor?
Probably not.
That's not a sales pitch—it's the truth.
Many families are fully capable of managing their own hockey journey. If you're organized, willing to learn, and prepared to invest the time, you can absolutely navigate the process yourself.
But what you do need is a plan.
Every year, I speak with families who are investing thousands of dollars in hockey while making decisions based on hope, assumptions, or advice they've picked up online. They're working hard, but they're reacting instead of planning.
At Compass, we're not here to convince every family they need us. We're here for the families who value honest feedback, clear strategy, and a structured plan for advancement.
Whether you work with Compass or build your own system, my advice is the same: don't leave your player's future to chance.
2. Can You Get My Player Recruited?
No.
And anyone who tells you they can should make you cautious.
College coaches, junior teams, and professional organizations recruit players—not advisors.
Do we have relationships and trust with organizations that can be leveraged? Most certainly. But that gets a player consideration, not a roster spot.
What we are great at is positioning your player with teams who have a need and will value your player's potential.
That means helping you make better decisions about development, exposure, marketing, communication, and timing. It means making sure coaches receive the right information, at the right time, and that your player is presented professionally.
Recruiting is incredibly competitive. Every roster spot is earned against dozens—or sometimes hundreds—of other players pursuing the same opportunity.
Our role isn't to promise an outcome.
No guarantees.
No shortcuts.
Just honest direction and a process designed to give your player the best possible chance.
3. What Does Compass Actually Do?
Compass provides honest hockey advancement advice. Period.
Think of us as a strategic partner for your family.
We help you build a long-term plan instead of making isolated decisions one season at a time.
That may include evaluating development options, planning exposure opportunities, reviewing recruiting strategy, assisting with player marketing, preparing coach communication, or simply helping you understand what comes next.
Just as important is what we don't do.
We don't coach your player.
We don't make roster decisions.
We don't promise scholarships.
We don't tell families what they want to hear if it isn't true.
Instead, we provide honest assessments, practical recommendations, and a structured marketing approach that helps families make informed decisions throughout the hockey journey.
Our goal isn't to replace your coaches or your support system.
Our goal is to help your family navigate one of the most competitive environments in youth sports with confidence and clarity.
4. When Should We Start Planning?
Earlier than most families think.
The biggest mistake I see isn't that players aren't talented enough—it's that important decisions are made too late.
By the time many families begin asking questions about junior hockey, prep schools, or college recruiting, opportunities have already been missed.
Planning doesn't mean putting unnecessary pressure on a young player.
It means understanding what options exist, what milestones matter, and what decisions today may affect opportunities two or three years from now.
Every player's path is different.
That's exactly why there isn't a one-size-fits all roadmap.
The earlier you understand the landscape, the more options your player is likely to have.
Good planning doesn't guarantee success.
It simply gives your player the best opportunity to compete in the recruitment game.
5. What Makes Compass Different?
Compass was built around one simple belief:
Families deserve honest direction.
The hockey world is full of opinions, promises, and noise. Every season, families spend significant amounts of time, money, and emotion chasing opportunities that may never materialize because no one was willing to have an honest conversation.
That's not how we operate.
If I believe your player should stay where they are, I'll tell you.
If I believe changing teams won't improve their opportunities, I'll tell you.
If I don't think an expensive camp is the right investment, I'll tell you.
Sometimes the best advice is to do less—not more.
Compass isn't built on selling hope. It's built on helping families make better decisions over time.
Our success isn't measured by how many players we represent.
It's measured by whether the families we work with make smarter decisions, avoid costly mistakes, and give their player the strongest possible opportunity to reach their goals.
That's what Honest Direction means.
Honest Direction.
